William Hill reckons that the former politician is in line to set a new record for the worst score ever awarded on the hit BBC show - a title currently held by former Top Gear star, Quentin Wilson during Series 2.

“Ed Balls could easily be the worst dancer in the history of Strictly – although he will be going some to produce a worse dance than Quentin Willson’s now infamous Cha Cha Cha,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

Meanwhile, if you are feeling more optimistic about the Labour MP’s chances then the same bookies are offering 100/1 that he will score a ten on his first dance.

Speaking about his booking to CelebMix, Ed said the judge he is most keen to impress is Len Goodman.

“All the judges are very knowledgeable, but not all of them I can predict as well as Len. I tend to think Len has got his finger on the pulse of the nation when it comes to judging. I think if Len is less than favourable it will just inspire me to work harder because I want to do well for him.”

Ed has also said that his wife, Labour MP Yvette Cooper, is most jealous about his turn on the dancefloor and would love to compete herself.

“Yvette is hugely envious she’s always wanted to be on Strictly, she’s a great dancer so she said to me you’ve got to do it – so I’m doing it for Yvette,” he said.
