They might seem like an unlikely duo, but with 13 UK number ones between them, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran sure know how to create a catchy tune. So, it should come as no surprise then that the pair’s first official collaboration – I Don’t Care – has gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart.

The news, from the Official Charts Company, came just hours after the pair released a wonderfully irreverent music video to accompany the track. In it both pop stars are seen in a variety of outrageous outfits (including a panda costume) as well as posing against a green screen.

Both stars took to Instagram this week to prep their fans for the video’s release, making fun of each other in the post comments in the process. The two posts announcing the video’s arrival already has more than 4.5 million likes.

You could feel the camaraderie between the two, with Bieber even commenting on Sheeran’s post with a little heckle, saying, “I think you married me in this when I was a minor. Not cool Ed.”

Fans were quick to comment themselves, loving the madcap feel. One commenter said: “It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen and I LOVE it 😂😂😂😂😂”, while another was taken with Sheeran’s attire, asking “Am I the only one who thinks Ed is so sexy in cowboy clothes?🤤”

I Don’t Care is already one of the fastest selling singles of the year (second only to Ariana Grande’s Seven Rings), with combined sales of 123,825. It has also been streamed 13 million times, with another 22,000 downloads on top of that.

It’s the first time the two musicians have released a record together, but they have collaborated in the past. Sheeran’s Love Yourself was actually co-written by Bieber.

It is predicted that the release of the video today will boost sales further in the song’s second week.
