Ed Sheeran has confirmed he is cancelling a series of upcoming concerts after fracturing his wrist and elbow in a bike crash.

The singer announced the news on Instagram alongside a picture of his arm, encased in a black bandage.

The star, 26, came off his bike just days before he was due to fly to Asia to play a run of concerts.

He said: “A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

“Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

“I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details.”

Injuries consistent with the singer's normally take between four to 12 weeks to heal.

The Galway Girl singer first shared news of the injury on Monday.

He initially told his nearly 16 million followers: "Ive had a bit of a bicycle accident and I'm currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows. Please stay tuned for further news. Ed x."

His next tour date was scheduled to be a performance in Taipei on October 22.
