English singer Ed Sheeran is now the highest earning solo singer in the world. The crooner who’s had massive hits with the likes of Shape of You and Thinking Out Loud, has surpassed Adele as the richest international solo artist.

According to a report by The Sun, Sheeran made an incredible £75,000 a day in 2017, which equates to £3,125 an hour. His limited company, Ed Sheeran Ltd, released its accounts this week, which showed the company made £36,293,611 in 2017, and made a total profit of £27,376,900.

And Sheeran also paid his fair share in UK taxes last year – £5,293,424 to be exact. This is more than many top companies paid in UK taxes in 2017, including corporate giants Starbucks and Amazon. This is despite Sheeran earning significantly less than both companies reported in revenue.

Starbucks made £162 million in the UK the same year but paid just £3.3 million in UK Taxes through Starbucks Coffee Company (UK) Limited. While Amazon made almost £2 billion and paid just £4.5 million in UK taxes.

In its total UK subsidiaries Starbucks paid £13.7 million in UK tax in 2017, but this is still a significantly lower percentage ratio compared to Sheeran earnings and taxes paid.

Sheeran is humble about his earnings however, and told OK! magazine in 2017 he’s not that motivated by money.

“It’s like, earn a penny, spend a penny with me. As soon as it comes in, it goes out. I don’t have that much value on it. I have more value on my friends and family being OK.

“A lot of my money goes to charity or to children’s hospitals near where I live. I have enough to be comfortable and the rest goes to help people,” Sheeran said.

In fact, he only paid himself £8,164 from his limited company last year, leaving him a whopping £16 million in the bank.

In July Forbes named Sheeran the world’s highest earning solo artist, jumping 62 places from 2017 to 9th place in its list of top earning celebrities. Sheeran beat the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and even Cristiano Ronaldo.
