Ed Sheeran pays touching tribute to 11-year-old super fan who died

Singer Ed Sheeran paid a touching tribute to one of his 11-year-old super fans who passed away.

The Thinking Out Loud star shared a heartfelt photo of himself and fan Melody after they first met in 2016. The 11-year-old suffered from an incurable illness.

‘Rest in peace beautiful Melody x’ the caption read, which accompanied a sweet photo of the pair looking at one another and Melody appearing chuffed at meeting her idol.

The singer evoked a number of kind comments about the sad news, too.

‘he lived her life. It might have been a short one but she is in a way better place than earth. She will never be forgotten. R.I.P Beautiful Melody, we all love you,’ read one user’s words.

‘Ok now i’m upset Rest in peace,’ read another. ‘Melody was a special person in being a fan of you. rest in peace melody,’ said another of his fans.

Melody suffered from Rett syndrome which affects the brain and prevents a person from walking or talking.

Further problems arose when, in March, her parents were told she’d be taken off pain killers over concerns it could be damaging her liver. With a massive legal fee mounting, Sheeran donated one of his guitars to auction off to help with the costs. The family sold the instrument for £50,000 and were able to cover the costs of the court fight.

In the wake of the girl’s death, mum Karina and step-dad Nigel told the Croydon Advertiser how she was a ‘living angel’ and would ‘smile through the worst pain.’

‘Her heart kept beating right to the end. She loved life, she was a living angel,’ shared Karina. ‘Even in her worst pain she would smile.

‘She was the most amazing and beautiful little girl that there could ever be.’ She continued: ‘Everyone that saw her smile fell in love with her. I can’t bear the thought of not seeing her smile again.’
