Ed Sheeran will mark his musical comeback with a performance at this year’s BRIT Awards.

The 25-year-old singer will take to the stage at London’s O2 Arena for the annual awards bash later this month.

Sheeran broke the news on Twitter – and also revealed he has been immortalised in emoji form to mark the occasion.

He tweeted: “I'll be performing at this year's @brits - got my own emoji as well #EdSheeranBRITs.”

BRIT Awards Chairman and Chairman of Sony Music UK & Ireland Jason Iley said: “We are delighted to announce that Ed Sheeran will be performing at this year’s BRIT Awards.

“Ed continues to be one of the most exciting, innovative artists in the world - constantly pushing boundaries with everything he does. This year’s exclusive performance will be a very special moment for the 37th BRIT Awards.”

The Thinking Out Loud singer joins the current line-up of Robbie Williams, Little Mix, Emeli Sandé, The 1975, Bruno Mars and Skepta.

Sheeran is no stranger to the ceremony having won a total of four BRITs including the gong for British Breakthrough Act in 2012 and the highly coveted Mastercard British Album of the Year in 2014 for X.

The news comes days after he released tickets for his upcoming tour in support of his new album ÷ (divide).

Minutes after tickets went on sale they appeared on secondary sites for as much as £1000.

The BRIT Awards are on February 22.
