A new EDF weekday incentive will give people a chance to earn free hours of electricity. EDF is "on a mission to help you save cash and carbon while contributing to a more sustainable national electricity grid" and has launched Sunday Saver - a scheme giving rewards for using less electricity during the peak hours.

The firm says: "We are doing everything we can to help our customers save cash and carbon. That's why we're offering you free electricity as part of our Sunday Saver challenge. We want to encourage you to shift your electricity usage away from peak hours during the week (usually 4pm to 7pm).

"And by taking some of the strain off the electricity grid at peak times, we're all helping Britain move towards net zero. Are you ready for the challenge? Together, we can help create a cleaner, more sustainable national grid." You should be able to earn free electricity quite easily by making small changes to your energy habits.

For instance, everyone in the house can charge up their devices outside of peak times; you can put the dishwasher on in the morning; or do a bit of batch cooking at the weekend. You can earn up to 16 hours of free electricity each week, but there's a maximum amount of free electricity you can use during your free hours.

Michael and Julie Parker earned 192 hours of free electricity on our Sunday Saver trial. They said: "We found the Sunday Saver challenge trial really simple. We managed to reduce our electricity by ensuring we didn't do any clothes washing, use the dishwasher or charge a car between 4–7pm. With the free hours we earned on Sundays, it’s been great to do as much as possible such as washing and charging things around the house."

You can keep track of how much free electricity you've earned each week in Energy Hub – and which Sunday you can use it.
