Tributes have been made following the funeral of an Edge Hill University student last week. Tributes have poured in on social media following the death of Alice McGrath on September 5.

The 20-year-old was a student at Edge Hill University before her death and previously attended Maricourt Catholic High School in Maghull. Following her death flowers and tributes were left on campus, with people creating a place to reflect.

Dr Michael Richards, a senior lecturer in applied health and social care at Edge Hill University who worked closely with Alice, paid tribute to his former student. He said: "Everyone at Edge Hill University is deeply saddened by the loss of Alice.

"She was a caring and dedicated student who was committed to building a career focused on supporting and caring for young people in need. Alice showed real potential in her studies, and her kindness and compassion touched everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her peers and tutors. Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time, and we will continue to honour her memory within our community.”

Earlier this month, Alex Burnell wrote on Facebook: "Yesterday I heard that a sweet girl called Alice who was a regular customer of Styles (especially the karaoke nights), who brightened the place up and was so full of life and smiles [had died].

"Everyone who knew her went to Styles Bar Ormskirk last night to celebrate her life, bringing flowers and all getting up as one to sing in her memory. There was laughter and a lot of emotions.

"Everyone there was a credit to Alice’s life and the staff Hannah-Louise & Paige were there all night for them all, it was an absolute pleasure to witness."
