All Edinburgh Airport flights cancelled as Storm Éowyn wreaks travel havoc

Edinburgh Airport has cancelled all flights due to Storm Éowyn.

Bosses announced that no flights will operate between 10am and 5pm on Friday, January 24 while the Met Office's red weather warning is in effect.

Originally, 136 flights were scheduled to depart on Friday with 124 arriving. Now, just 45 will depart and 57 will arrive.

The estimated number of passengers has plummeted from 28,000 to 14,500 as widespread cancellations continue to disrupt travel.

Edinburgh Airport urges passengers to keep up to date with their latest flight information as flights are subject to change.

Edinburgh Airport posted on X: "No flights will operate during the red weather warning between 1000 and 1700.

"Airline schedules will be subject to change tonight and in the days to come so please continue to check with your airline for the latest information."

This comes after several major airlines cancelled dozens of flights on Thursday, January 23 in advance of the storm

EasyJet, Loganair, British Airways and Lufthansa are among airlines who have been forced to cancel flights out of the capital before gale force winds sweep across the central belt on Friday, January 24.

A spokesperson for easyJet confirmed some flights to and from the capital are no longer able to operate and customers have been notified in advance with options including a refund or hotel accommodation and meals where required.

Loganair also advised passengers to check online for the most up-to-date flight information, with routes to Kirkwall, Southampton and Sumburgh among those affected.

EasyJet flights to Paris De Gaulle, Krakow, Geneva, Stansted, Prague and Luton are also among routes impacted by severe weather.

British Airways flights to London City and Heathrow have also been scrapped. Several Aer Lingus flights to Dublin have been cancelled and a United Airlines flight to Newark has been pulled.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: "Due to the severe weather warning in place for tomorrow and over the weekend affecting all airlines, some flights to and from Edinburgh are no longer able to operate as planned.

The cancelled flights are among many disrupted transport services as trains and buses also see cancellations on Friday.
