Edinburgh Amazon Prime series to go ahead despite author Neil Gaiman allegations

An Amazon Prime show filmed in Edinburgh is still set to be released despite allegations made against author and creator Neil Gaiman.

In April and May 2022, actors including Whoopi Goldberg and Delroy Lindo were spotted in the West End filming the opening scenes of Anansi Boys - a six-part mini series.

Edinburgh Live understands despite sexual misconduct allegations made against renowned author Neil Gaiman, Amazon are still expecting the show to land on Prime Video later this year.

Last month we reported a UK tour of the theatre show Coraline was axed with shows at Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre, set to go ahead during the summer, cancelled as a result.

A statement from the show's co-production partners confirmed: "From the co-production partners: Leeds Playhouse, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Birmingham Rep, and HOME, Manchester. We have decided our production of Coraline - A Musical will not proceed.

"After careful consideration, we feel it would be impossible to continue in the context of the allegations against its original author. Ticket holders have been contacted directly via email."

Last month, Neil Gaiman's graphic novels and comic books publisher Dark Horse Comics cancelled his upcoming work after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him.

Neil Gaiman has denied allegations of sexual misconduct made by eight women, posting a statement on his website. Earlier this month, he posted that he: "Never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever".

In 2022 we reported how film star Whoopi Goldberg was spotted taking in the sites in Edinburgh during filming for Anansi Boys. Film crews were spotted in the West End as Canning Street and Torphichen Street were closed off to the public.

The street was also packed with extras waiting to be directed to walk down the street on their phones or chatting. Although crews had been filming in Edinburgh for weeks the series will be set in London.
