Edinburgh cafe closes with touching note to punters after serving for over a decade

An Edinburgh cafe that has been serving residents for years has closed its doors for the final time.

Philpotts, which sits on Lothian Road, closed along with the Glasgow branch. Owners "apologised for any inconvenience" on their website.

The spot was known for serving up sandwiches, coffees and cakes as well as breakfast items. The reasons behind the closure have not yet been confirmed.

On their website, Philpotts said: "Notice: Our Glasgow and Edinburgh stores are now permanently closed, sorry for any inconvenience."

Over in Glasgow, a sign on the door of the Bothwell Street store read: "Unfortunately, this store will be closing permanently on Friday, November 8.

"We would like to thank you all for the custom over the years."

This comes after various stores in Edinburgh have been forced to close amid 'soaring costs'.

The Edinburgh Company Shop announced their closure on November 4. Informing customers, they said: "This has not been an easy decision and we have tried to make changes in order to make the store work.
