Edinburgh city bypass drivers in huge tailbacks following smash at busy junction

Edinburgh motorists have been pictured in huge tailbacks following a 'multi-vehicle collision' on the city bypass.

It is understood several cars collided on the A720 near the Calder junction at around 11am on Sunday morning, June 2, with one lane of the westbound carriageway restricted.

Despite traffic being able to pass the incident, live traffic cameras show huge tailbacks forming on the busy junction all the way to Hermiston Gait with Traffic Scotland warning of potential delays.

Taking to X, they also issued an update to drivers and urged those travelling in and around the city to exercise caution. They said: "A720 - Calder Junction (WB) One lane is RESTRICTED due to a multi vehicle collision. Traffic passing however tailback is causing delays .Updates to follow."

The incident follows another multi-vehicle crash on the A1 just outside the city earlier on Sunday morning. Emergency services rushed to the northbound carriageway near Tranent shortly after 9am, with all lanes since reopening.
