Edinburgh City Bypass: Drivers stuck on major road 'for two hours' in widespread disruption

Drivers have been stuck in traffic 'for two hours' as flooding has sparked widespread disruption.

Heavy rain has led to major disruption on the A720 on Thursday. The road at Dreghorn has been closed in both directions due to flooding.

Drivers are being told to 'avoid the area' by police.

Police Scotland Edinburgh said: "There is currently widespread traffic disruption on the A720 Edinburgh Bypass near to Dreghorn due to flooding.

"Delays are causing disruption back to the M8. Drivers are advised to avoid the area at this time."

One driver replied: "Two hours without any movement and young kids desperate for food. Is there a plan?"

Another said: "Help....been stuck on Edinburgh City Bypass for nearly two hours due to flooding. No movement in nearly an hour."

Traffic Scotland adds: "A720 Westbound at Dreghorn is currently closed due to adverse weather which is causing flooding on the carriageway, road users should are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route meantime."
