An Edinburgh bar has suddenly closed, leaving customers gutted.

Superico Bar and Lounge on 99 Hanover Street has closed just over a year after its sister restaurant shut its doors for good.

The popular bar was praised for its fun atmosphere, DJ and cocktails by customers. However, the company's website states that the venue is now shut.

It says: "Superico Is Closed. Our new venue will open soon. Thank you for your custom."

Back in December, a customer said on Tripadvisor: "We went to Superico for our works Christmas party and had a great time. The service was fantastic, there was a wide range of drinks, I loved the decor and it was great that there was a DJ instead of backing tracks. We didn't eat there so I cannot comment on the food. Would 100 per cent recommend."

Another said: "Great DJ the volume was perfect so you could still hold a conversation without having to shout at each other but could still enjoy the music, really nice snacks and drinks, friendly helpful staff and good clean toilets, had a great night out here, will be going again."

On Superico Bar and Lounge's Facebook page, it is suggested a new restaurant will be taking over the space under the name Cabo. According to Cabo's website, they are looking for staff to help with the running of the new restaurant and bar in the city centre.

This comes after the Superico Restaurant on 83 Hanover Street announced they were closing in January 2023.

"At the time, they said: "This is not something that we ever wished to post, but unfortunately our Superico Restaurant doors will not be re-opening for 2023.

"Coming out of covid with the ability to welcome everyone back to the restaurant has been truly wonderful, however times are just a little too tough now with costs rising.

"Not all is lost, as our team will still be mastering those cocktails along at Bar 99 just along the road where you will be able to continue the fun in 2023!

"We would like to thank all of our fantastic staff, customers and suppliers for supporting our restaurant over the recent years and we hope that we get to see you all again soon."
