Edinburgh city centre Sainsbury's to close as historic building to become hotel
An Edinburgh city centre Sainsbury's is set to close at the end of the week with the supermarket giant "required to vacate" the site.
A spokesperson for the chain confirmed its St Andrew Square Local store will close on Saturday, October 5, with the firm's lease expiring and a new boutique hotel set to be build above it.
As a result, staff are required to vacate the store in what has been described as an "unsettling time for everyone", with employees set to be offered alternative roles within the company.

In November last year we reported how the landlord of the A-listed building submitted plans to redevelop the site into a boutique hotel with the area viewed as a "marquee location."
It is understood the hotel will be run by the Point A brand and include over 200 rooms with a ground floor bar and restaurant which is currently occupied by Sainsbury's.
