Edinburgh city centre shoe shop set to be transformed into underground pub
A former Edinburgh city centre shoe repair shop is set to be transformed into an underground pub.
The building, at 21A Castle Street, formerly housed H Robertson below The Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant. Now, plans have been submitted by HIFI Ventures Limited to turn it into a public house.
If granted, the lower ground floor a bar with several seating booths and a small set of steps to a separate seating area. Toilets would be located on the same floor with the basement used for storage.

No further details have been provided on the type of bar or its operator as the change of use application will now be reviewed by council planners.
The site was previously advertised for sale on Savills for offers in excess of £300,000. Commercial property consultants Orinsen also described the property by saying: "The subjects comprise a self-contained retail unit arranged over lower ground floor and basement levels within a four-storey stone built tenement.

"The premises benefit from access via a wide set of stairs directly off the pavement on Castle Street. Internally, the subjects are currently fitted out to facilitate its previous use as a shoe repair shop.
"The lower ground floor comprises an open plan retail space which may be suitable for other uses (subject to planning). The basement level is accessed by way of a separate internal staircase located to the rear of the property."
