Edinburgh driver issued penalty after police make dangerous discovery
An Edinburgh driver has been issued a penalty and a fine after police pulled them over.
Officers found the vehicle to have tyres that were 'devoid' of treat. Police said this risks the safety of the driver and other road users.
Road Traffic Law states the legal minimum depth of the tread on tyres is 1.6 millimetres. Road Policing Scotland posted to X: "This vehicle was stopped yesterday by officers from the National Motorcycle Unit in Edinburgh.

"An examination found one of the tyres to be devoid of tread. A vehicle in this condition not only risks the safety of the occupant but also other road users #DontRiskIt.
"Driver issued a fixed penalty ticket, three points and a £100 fine."

One follower replied to the post: "Jesus wept. I changed my two front tyres last week as they were just below 3mm.
"Coming into the depths of winter, I didn't want to take any chances."

Road Traffic Law says on their site: "The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.
"For safety reasons it is recommended that you replace your tyres before the legal limit is reached."
