An Edinburgh friend of DJ Jackmaster is to take on a gruelling challenge in memory of the much-loved star.

Joseph Coghill, 40, will walk over 200 miles to raise funds for charities close to his late friend's heart. Joseph, who grew up in Morningside and now lives in Broadstairs, branded Jack a 'bright light' who was 'important to many lives'.

In 2022, Jack completed the Edinburgh Half Marathon - raising funds for We Are With You - an organisation that helps people affected by drugs, alcohol and mental health problems, as well as Endometriosis UK. Now, Joseph will be raising funds for the same charities in his honour.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Joseph, 39, said: "I met Jack in Glasgow when I was just 19 - he was an incredible guy. A lot of people won't know that he did a lot of charity work, but he did, he even jumped out of a plane for charity! He was very humble and always went above and beyond for others.

"I was in complete shock when I heard he had died, it was a very sad and stressful time for the family with him being abroad at the time. Jack had such a positive impact on people's lives - this is why I chose to do this in his memory, trying to take a little positivity from something so tragic.

"Jack gave me the confidence to do what I do, he always championed Scottish music acts".

Record Label founder Joseph went on to say, "bright lights burn out too quick, and God he shined bright".

Taking off on June 11, Joseph will give himself around two weeks to get to Glastonbury in Pilton, Somerset, on foot -with his partner Lucinda joining him at the beginning and some pals meeting him as he approaches the Pilgrims' Way.

Joseph went on to say: "Glasgow loved him and eventually the world loved him - I think that was evident at his funeral, people from all over the world came to say their goodbyes".

Following Jack's tragic death last October, his family shared a touching tribute to his Instagram. It read: “It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the untimely passing of Jack Revill, known to many as Jackmaster.

“His family—Kate, Sean, and Johnny — are utterly heartbroken. While deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues, and fans, the family kindly requests privacy as they navigate the immense grief of this devastating loss.

“Jack’s passion for music and his relentless drive to push creative boundaries through his work at the Numbers label and Rubadub Records in Glasgow, including discovering countless innovative artists, made him a beloved and pioneering figure in the electronic music community both in front of and behind the scenes. His talent for blending genres and delivering electrifying DJs sets and productions earned him the respect and admiration of peers and fans across the globe.

“His legacy will continue to inspire, and his impact on the world of dance music will remain indelible.”

Joseph knows the walk is a "big task" but has a "fire in his belly" knowing it's for a good cause. He is currently training daily, trying to reach 20 miles a day with a gruelling schedule that wakes him up at 5.30am - sometimes bracing the windy coastal weather.

Despite not having a ticket to the festival yet, Joseph jokingly said he's a "blagger" and will "get in for sure".
