An ice cream van destroyed a lamp post and residential fence after backing into it on a quiet Edinburgh street.

The incident took place around 2pm on Friday, January 17 on Redhall Gardens.

The driver of the ice cream van accidentally backed into the post which caused it to snap and destroy a nearby fence.

An image of the incident shows the shattered concrete lamppost in two pieces on the side of the road.

The post collapsed into the fence which was left in pieces. The Longstone Community Council claims the van only gave the post a "wee dunt".

The Community Council also stressed that the driver was "shocked" and cooperative, giving his "full details to the council when we called in".
