Edinburgh local reacts after Lothian Bus routes scrapped as Storm Bert batters city

Edinburgh locals have reacted after Lothian Bus services were cancelled on Saturday (November 23) due to Storm Bert.

In a tongue-in-cheek video posted online, the young woman shared clips of various spots in Edinburgh as heavy snow showers battered the city.

She added her joy "lasted five minutes" before they cancelled all the bus services. It came after heavy snow triggered severe disruption across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The video caption reads: "My joy lasted all of five minutes because then they cancelled all the buses.

"They closed the xmas fair ride too, like you would assume an XMAS fair is more prepared for snow?"

Edinburgh Christmas Markets closed East and West Princes Street Gardens for some time during the morning with various rides and attractions closed too. However, as the snow eased, attractions slowly started to re-open and the festivities continued.

Lothian Buses previously said on Saturday: "Due to adverse weather across the network, buses are unable to continue due to safety concerns.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while our teams work to asses routes.

"Due to increased demand, our website may be slower than normal when loading - we are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please bear with us."

However, at around 5.30pm they confirmed services were fully restored and thanked customers for their patience.

They said: "Earlier today we took the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily suspect services across our network due to adverse weather conditions which presented significant operational challenges for our business.

"Our network has now been restored to full complement and we sincerely thank all our customers who've been impacted today for their patience and understanding."

The video which gained over 1000 likes, collecting several comments from locals who shared their thoughts on the weather conditions.

One person said: "Nahhh stop! Cause not me leaving Edinburgh for the weekend and I'm now stuck in wind and rain in Dundee and Edinburgh has snow."

Another local commented: "Praying it will melt by Monday as I am travelling to Edinburgh for my birthday activities."
