Edinburgh locals brace for thunderstorms and deluges this weekend

Edinburgh will be impacted by several thunderstorms in the coming week.

Forecasters have warned Edinburgh residents to expect a period of thunderstorms in the coming days.

The weekend is predicted to start off dry with thundery showers coming into play on Saturday July 6 at around 10am.

The thunder and lightning is expected to be at its most intense from 1pm on Saturday.

Unfortunately the day is expected to be a washout with showers and light winds lasting until midnight on Sunday 7.

Thankfully those out and about in the city will have a brief reprieve from the downpours throughout Sunday morning and the early afternoon with the weather expected to remain dry.

However, the rain will return from 3pm and will continue to batter Edinburgh until 11pm in the evening.

Monday 8 starts dry with clear skies and sunshine between 7am and 9am before overcast skies hang above until noon.

From there we will once more see a long period of light showers and light winds from noon until 10pm.

Tuesday 9 will see a continuation of overcast skies but forecasters have cautioned residents to expect a further bout of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Rain will begin to fall from 11am with showers intensifying at noon and culminating in thunder and lightning from 2-4pm.

This will then transform into two and a half days of non-stop rain with light winds throughout this period.

Then there will be a welcome break from the wet and windy weather on Thursday 11 at 2pm.

Forecasters say that the weather will remain dry throughout next weekend with the rain holding off until Sunday 14.

Temperatures will vary between 16-19 degrees over the coming week.
