Edinburgh locals slam TikToker as he describes 'shortcut' through city centre
Edinburgh locals have slammed a TikToker after he attempted to reveal a "shortcut" through the city centre.
Peter Edwards, an online personal trainer who has 67,000 followers on TikTok, posted a clip where he took viewers on the route that he "couldn't believe" he'd missed. Heading from the St James Quarter to the Royal Mile, his big reveal was using North Bridge.
Followers were quick to question the video, with one asking: "Did you also know Elvis is dead?"

Peter said: "You know what's crazy in the centre of Edinburgh?
"Getting to the Royal Mile is often a chore, but there's actually a faster way from the St James Quarter. A local just showed me and I can't believe I've missed this for years.
"We're gonna start on level two, St James Quarter, John Lewis - right next to where the picture frames are. You're gonna head out of Joh Lewis, and walk towards the Five Guys area."
He then passes the Lego store, leaving the St James Quarter on the Princes Street side. Peter continues: "You're gonna continue onto Princes Street where the Balmoral is and then you're gonna head up the street called North Bridge.

"The great thing about this street is it's super quiet. You get through it in a couple of minutes.
"Now here's the crazy part, right here just across from the Radison Blu - if you just take a couple of steps you'll be on the Royal Mile."
Followers were quick to shame Peter for his 'shortcut'. Sarah Bowsher commented: "How did you not know that?"
Another posted: "Em, what other way would you go?"
A third said: "Actually thought you we're going to show me a different way than the one I use."

Anyone who has lived in Edinburgh for enough time will know that North Bridge was in fact created to provide a link between the Old and New Towns. On their site, Capital Collections say: "The original North Bridge was completed in 1772 to provide access from Edinburgh's Old Town to the planned New Town development in the north of the city.
"It was widened in the 1870's to accommodate increased traffic, and was finally rebuilt between 1894-7 alongside the development at Waverley."
