Edinburgh passengers face cancellations after vehicle collides with crossing barriers

Edinburgh passengers are facing 'major disruption' after a vehicle collided with ScotRail crossing barriers on Monday morning.

The vehicle struck barriers between Barry Links and Monifieth, closing all local lines. ScotRail advised passengers at around 11.30am of the incident, with services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh impacted.

It is not known if anyone has been injured as a result of the incident. The line reopened at around midday, though disruption is expected.

Trains are still required to run at slower speeds with delays, alterations and cancellations expected.

Scotrail posted to X at around 11.30am: "NEW: Due to a road vehicle colliding with level crossing barriers between Barry Links and Monifieth all lines are closed.

"Train services between Glasgow Queen Street / Edinburgh and Aberdeen will be cancelled, delayed or revised."

They later added: "UPDATE: The line through Barry Links has now reopened following a road vehicle colliding with level crossing barriers.

"Services are still subject to delays, alterations and cancellations due to trains needing to run at slower speeds through Barry Links."
