There are 706 registered sex offenders living in Edinburgh and the Lothians, according to the most recent statistics from September 2024.

Other areas with high concentrations were Liberton, Craigmillar, and Niddrie (EH16) with 42 and Bathgate (EH48) with 41.
Some centre city Edinburgh postcodes also showed high numbers - such as Blackhall, Clermiston, and Craigleith (EH4) - and a narrow corridor that includes Stenhouse (EH11), which each had 37.
Areas with the lowest numbers included Rosewell (EH24), Kirkliston (EH 29), Gullane (EH31), and West Linton (EH46) which all had just one.
Other regions including Roslin (EH25), Newbridge and Ratho (EH28), North Berwick (EH39), and East Linton (EH40) also bottomed the list, each with just two or three offenders.
Registered sex offenders (RSOs) are added to the national register when a Sheriff or Judge considers there to have been a "significant sexual aspect" to a crime.
RSOs who fail to comply with notification requirements can be imprisoned for up to five years.
Police Scotland states that RSOs can "come from all walks of life" and can be male or female.
Individuals with concerns about an adult’s access to a child are encouraged to contact authorities if they are worried the person may be an RSO.
