Edinburgh revellers flock to popular beach and crowd round fires as mini-heatwave hits

Crowds gathered on Portobello beach on Saturday to make the most of the warmer evening weather.

To mark the weekend and the beginning of the month, locals flocked to the popular beach spot with pit fires spotted across the coast.

Images taken from the beauty spot were shared on social media and show large crowds of people making the most of the sunshine and small fires burning as the evening came in.

This comes as temperatures reached as high as 21C in the capital with Edinburgh locals heading outside to catch some well needed rays.

Edinburgh Live previously reported how large crowds were also spotted at the meadows on Saturday as the festival got underway. The annual festival takes place in the first weekend of June, and has done since 1974 and brings live performances, family activities, a dog show and more to the Meadows over June 1 and 2.

Organisers for the Meadows Festival said: "Established in 1974 the Meadows Festival has been run on the first weekend of June almost every year since.

"Over the past 50 years the festival has changed and the event now boasts one of the UK’s largest community festivals with the biggest outdoor market in Edinburgh and something for all ages. From the Children and Families’ Area, to the Dog Show, Performance Area, Totally Sound Futures Stage showcasing local youth music, and the Main Stage with local artists.
