Edinburgh residents have been urged to 'avoid the area' after a fire broke out in the city centre.

The blaze, on Rose Street, was first reported to the emergency services at around 3.34pm. Several shops were told to close early, with the street closed off to pedestrians on Castle Street and Frederick Street.

Devil's Scribe, a tattoo parlour on Rose Street, said there was no access to the street and they had been ordered to close early due to a fire 'in the building site across'. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed five appliances and one height appliance had been dispatched.
