Edinburgh roundabout near beauty spot taken over by 'drag racing' car enthusiasts

Edinburgh residents have hit out after a busy city centre road was taken over by drag-racing car enthusiasts.

Footage captured by residents and uploaded to social media show dozens of modified cars performing doughnuts and racing on Waterloo Place and Regent Road, near Calton Hill, on Friday May 31.

Videos show several cars drifting around the roundabout at the entrance to the beauty spot with buses and other traffic forced to wait in long queues.

A huge crowd also assembled to watch the action with spectators lining the streets and the middle of the road to film as stunts took place 'for hours' with one fed-up resident hitting out at those involved.

Sending footage to Edinburgh Live they said the event was ongoing for several hours with cars 'drag racing' outside their window.

Motorbikes and off-road motorcycles can also be seen pulling wheelies in the footage with a queue of noisy cars blocking the roundabout for other road users at around 9pm.

At the same time, Lothian Buses also issued a service alert for services which serve Waterloo Place as a diversion was put in place for the numbers 43, X18, X27 and X28.
