Edinburgh shopkeepers tell of moment police swooped on flat as body found

Edinburgh shop workers have described the moment emergency services locked down Dundee Street after a man was found dead in a flat.

Police Scotland announced a 46-year-old was found dead at a residential property after they received reports of concern for a person at around 9.40am on Thursday November 21.

Emergency services partially cordoned off Dundee Street while they responded to the call out.

Cameron, 42, who works in the Scared Skull Tattoo shop, witnessed police and firefighters outside of his workplace for up to two hours but was unaware of the circumstances relating to their presence.

"Police were here for more than two hours," he said. "They got here at about 1.30pm and the fire brigade were here till 4pm. I've no idea why.

"Police were outside the shop and usually they are in the corner shops because of someone causing bother but I didn't see them in the shops today. When I was taking the bin out I saw the fire brigade get into one of the flats above."

Mohammad, who works as a newsagent at Fountain News, added: "Police were there for five or six hours this morning then I think they called the fire brigade this evening.

"I think they were trying to get into the flat."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.40am on Thursday, 21 November, 2024 we were called to a report of concern for a person at a property on Dundee Street in Edinburgh.

"Officers attended and a 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
