After an Arctic blast swept across Scotland, weather forecasters have said summer may 'return' for a couple of days.

Despite being in mid-September, temperatures are expected to rise in Edinburgh in the coming days bringing with it some sunshine.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to rise to 20C by Tuesday as high-pressure moves in.

The Met Office forecasts Monday will see highs of 17C while remaining dry and sunny throughout the day. By 1pm, temperatures will rise to 15C before peaking at around 3pm.

On Tuesday, September 17, locals will enjoy highs of 20C from the afternoon with bright skies expected. Wednesday will continue to stay warm and dry throughout with peaks of 18C before cloud moves in on Thursday bringing a slightly colder feel.

David Oliver, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, explained: “In the wake of the front on Sunday, high pressure then builds, bringing fine and dry conditions to most parts of the UK for much of next week.

“If any rain develops it is expected to be confined to the extreme northwest of Scotland on Monday and Tuesday. There is a risk of some fog patches overnight and temperatures continue to increase, with many places a little above average by mid-week.”
