Edinburgh woman in Corfu hospital after friend's wedding trip turns into 'nightmare'
An Edinburgh woman has been left unable to walk after suffering a spinal injury on a trip to Corfu for her friend's wedding.
Amy Sharp, 45, flew out to the Greek island on September 9 for a week and was due to fly back to the capital on September 16. However, she was admitted to hospital the day before her flight home.
Amy was found by her friends lying awkwardly, after experiencing extreme pain in her lower back and remains in hospital with two collapsed vertebrae and a £43,000 air ambulance looking like the family's only way of getting her home.

The Liberton local has undergone CT scans, MRI scans and has been booked on two domestic flights which the hospital reportedly refused to agree to, according to her brother Graham.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Graham said: "I have been in touch with the foreign office to get guidance but it seems like the only option open to us as a family is to organise an air ambulance to bring her home.
"We've gone from a £100 flight to get back to Corfu to a £43,000 air ambulance. I'm almost at the point where I'm going to have to book this just to get her home.
"She had surgery in February but was declared back to full health. It seems to have come out of nowhere as she had a procedure to fix this and the surgeon even told us it was one of the best operations he had done.
"The in-laws of the wedding party are Greek so they are out there but her friends started heading back over last week. My mum and dad actually flew out to Ibiza the day she got admitted to hospital."

Graham, as well as his parents, are planning on flying to Corfu once a final decision has been made on how to get Amy back to Scotland. He has also started a fundraiser to try and cover some of the cost for the air ambulance and has so far been supported by friends, family and former work colleagues.
Meanwhile, Amy is still bedbound in hospital unable to walk or sit, with doctors reportedly telling her she needs 'immediate surgery'.
Graham continued: "She's still on the ball but is bedridden but can't move and been told she needs urgent surgery to fix the disc bulge which is causing the pressure.

"She may even need spinal fusion but we don't know. We're in constant communication and need to look at what to do but it looks like we will have to go with the air ambulance to just get her home."
