Edinburgh woman inspired to make change after 'eye-opening' visit to refugee camp
An Edinburgh woman says she was inspired to make a difference after a life-changing visit to a refugee camp.
Angela Inglis travelled to Greece and met with those who had been forced to flee their homes due to conflict and persecution. She had an "eye-opening" visit to camps on the islands of Chios and Samos, where she saw the "harsh realities".
Since returning, Angela has been committed to the cause and completely the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise vital funds. She hoped to raise awarenss and support for ForRefugees, an organisation which ensures that refugees can access essential services.

Angela, director at Limitless DMC, joined lifelong friend Amber Bauer for the visit. Amber is the founder of ForRefugees, and has a "passion for helping those forced to flee their homes".
The duo worked with organisations such as Biryani and Bananas, which provides essential supplies like food, clothing, and basic hygiene items to those living in the camps.
Angela said: "The experience was humbling.
"I returned feeling immensely motivated by the resilience and gratitude of the refugees I met, despite the dire conditions they face daily. This deep personal involvement is what drives our commitment to supporting ForRefugees.

"The more we learn about the incredible work they do, the more determined we become to help amplify their efforts. Every donation to the charity goes directly to the people who need it most, without being tied up in bureaucracy or unnecessary overheads.
"This hands-on approach is one of the many reasons we’re so proud to stand behind this cause. We are proud to stand with ForRefugees, and we will continue to champion their work, raising awareness and funds to ensure that those who need it most receive the help they deserve.
"Together, we can make a difference. For us, supporting ForRefugees is not just about giving – it’s about recognising our shared humanity. We are all connected by the simple fact that the circumstances of our birth are out of our control.
"The refugees we support could easily be us or our loved ones, and their strength in the face of adversity is something we can all learn from.”
Angela did the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, a 20 mile trek, along with her colleagues Geoff Crow and Pamela Badham. The team say they were "equally committed" to the cause.
Amber Bauer, Founder of ForRefugees, said: “At ForRefugees, we believe that no one should have to endure the hardships of displacement alone.
"The support we’ve received from Angela and Limitless DMC has been truly humbling. Their commitment to helping people, not just through donations but by raising awareness and engaging with the communities we serve, has been a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together.

"My team and I can’t wait to have them join us as we take on the Kiltwalk this month. This is a huge step towards hope for those who have lost so much, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication to our cause.”
According to Refugee Support Aegean, the usual capacity of the Island of Chios refugee camp is around 1,000. 30 per cent of these people are from Somalia, and around 18 per cent have come from Palestine.
