Edith Bowman's mum froze her out for a week for turning down Strictly
The star joked that her mum didn't speak to her for days after she passed up a twirl around the ballroom
What did you miss?
Edith Bowman has revealed her mum stopped talking to her for a week when she passed on Strictly Come Dancing.
The radio star has been approached about doing the BBC show in the past but so far has yet to say yes to a twirl around the ballroom. However, it seems her mum is desperate to see her sign up and apparently froze her out for days when she said no.
Bowman opened up on The One Show as the remaining celebs were revealed for the 2024 line-up. She was a guest on the sofa and was in the studio as hosts Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne teased the final three Strictly hopefuls.
What, how and why?
Before revealing the final three as Nick Knowles, Paul Merson and Sam Quek, Jones asked Bowman: “We hear that your mum is not going to be happy that we are not going to reveal you as one of this year’s Strictly contestants?”
The star started to laugh and replied: “Oh yes, sorry mum, sorry! Not this year I’m afraid.”
Discussing how seriously her mum took it, she explained: “She didn’t speak to me for a week when I got asked once to do it. I kept ringing her and she wasn’t answering… ‘What’s wrong with mum?’”
Edith Bowman says Celebrity MasterChef was 'nerve-wracking'
While Bowman has yet to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing, she is giving Celebrity MasterChef a go this year. The programme is returning for its 19th series, with a new crop of stars tasked with whipping up dishes that wow the critics.
Despite being a veteran of TV and radio, Bowman admitted that it was a bit of a daunting experience for her. “It’s really nerve-wracking,” she said. “You walk in and there is something about that space and that studio and you kind of feel like a little kid again.”
“There was a lot of emotion wasn’t there,” said fellow guest Charlotte Crosby, who is also putting her culinary skills to the test on the show. “I think we both cried,” laughed Bowman.
Others stars in the kitchen this season include Jake Quickenden, Vito Coppola, Rochenda Sandall, Dominic Skinner, Chloe Burrows, Tamer Hassan and Emma Thyne. Christine McGuinness, OJ Borg, Mutya Buena, Snoochie Shy, Craig Doyle, Eshaan Akbar, Danielle Harold, Diane Carson, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Ian ‘H’ Watkins and Jamie MacDonald have also signed up.
Celebrity MasterChef 2024 starts on Tuesday 13 August at 8pm on BBC One, with the next episodes airing on Thursday 15 August at 8pm and 9pm on Friday 16 August.
