EE fans left reeling by Charlie Cotton's shock return

EastEnders was full of drama again tonight (December 14) as Max Branning's web of dark secrets and lies edged closer to being exposed.

Much to his, Jack's and even our surprise, Max's plans for revenge were left up in the air when Charlie Cotton and Matthew turned up on the Square in a shock twist.

Sure, we knew that there would be more Max surprises in today's trip to Walford, but Charlie's involvement had been kept firmly under wraps.

This is the first time we've seen Charlie since he took his biological son Matthew away from Jack – in a scheme engineered by the ever-manipulative Max.

Unsurprisingly, viewers were left reeling by the return of Charlie and Matthew, and took to Twitter to express their feelings in all their caps-locked glory.
