Efforts Continue to Quell Container Ship Fire Off Sri Lanka Coast

Efforts to quell the fire onboard the X-Press Pearl off the coast of Colombo, Sri Lanka, continued on May 29, with local media reporting that the ship was believed to be at risk of sinking.

The fire first broke out on May 20 before the situation worsened on May 25.

All 25 crew were evacuated, with two hospitalized with injuries. The fire resulted in eight containers falling into the sea, according to the Colombo Page.
