We have a winner for the most beautiful drone on the market and its name is the PowerEgg.

Beijing-based PowerVision has created a unique, egg-shaped drone that delivers much of the remote video shooting features available in other drones, but in a more travel-friendly package.

Once its propellers are extended from its smooth, egg-shaped base, that drone can fly for up to 23 minutes and has a range of 3.1 miles. And while it looks like the harbinger of doom from an alien invasion (it's a dead ringer for the alien ship in Arrival), it's actually primarily designed for shooting high definition video.

Located at the bottom of the drone is a 4K camera with a 3-axis gimbal, allowing it to capture panoramic, stabilized HD video.

In addition to its futuristic look, the drone is also forward looking in its control mechanism as its software allows you to control it from your iOS or Android device. Using those controls, you can engage special automated flight commands such as Follow Me, Orbit and a selfie mode.

"Our goal was to take PowerVision's technology expertise and package it in a form factor that everyone interested in flying a drone could relate with and enjoy immediately," Wally Zheng, PowerVision founder, said in a statement accompanying the drone's official release.

In that respect, the company may have hit on a key point. In the same way Apple helped make personal computers simpler and more accessible to mainstream users, the PowerEgg's stunning design and smartphone integration may help move drones from hobbyist pursuit into something any casual user might pick up.

The drone went on sale Wednesday for $1,288 and will reach consumers sometime in mid-October.
