Azza Fahmy, a luxury Egyptian jewellery brand worn by singers Rihanna and Joss Stone, on Wednesday became the first of scores of international designers expected to open debut London shops this year.

Azza Fahmy, who set up her eponymous jewellery business in Cairo in 1969, has inked a deal to open in March alongside the likes of Chanel and Mulberry at the Burlington Arcade.

The Mayfair centre is owned by property investors Meyer Bergman and Thor Equities.

The accessories firm has previously collaborated with Matthew Williamson at London Fashion Week.

Fatma Ghaly, managing director of Azza Fahmy, said it had been looking at opening a store in London “for some time”.

Burlington Arcade’s leasing agent Cushman & Wakefield said there are at least 30 luxury retailers which are looking to open shops in London in 2018.

Cushman & Wakefield's Peter Mace said: “Demand at the higher end of the market remain very robust as this sector seems to be less impacted by internet sales. Customers want to feel the product before they buy.”
