Eight gastropubs in Lancashire and Cumbria named among top 100 in country
Eight pubs in Lancashire and Cumbria have been recognised in a list of the UK's top 100 gastropubs.
The list, curated by lager giant Estrella Damm, has recognised hardworking individuals in the sector since 2009, honouring some of the best food-led boozers in the country. Six of the eight Lancashire and Cumbria venues recognised made the top 50, showcasing the region's fine culinary talents.
Having released a shortlist in December 2024, the definitive top 100 was announced during a ceremony on Monday, January 27, at London’s Plaisterers’ Hall.

Boasting fourth place is the Parkers Arms in Newton-in-Bowland, near Clitheroe, which was praised for serving "excellent award-winning modern British classics" in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In 2023, the pub took the top spot in the list, but clearly the quality hasn't waned.
Estrella Damm's description reads: "It is testament to chef-patron Stosie Madi and her business partner Kathy Smith’s dedication to making their pub one of the best in the country. The pub’s isolated location works in its favour, commanding stunning views of rolling hills whether you visit in summer or winter.
"Madi and Smith took on the Parkers Arms in 2007 and have amassed an equally adoring local and national following, with gourmands travelling on occasion the length and breadth of the country to sample Madi’s cooking. The food here is honest, putting flavour and experience above all else, which should always be the case.
"This is a true gastropub, taking pride in the local produce – foraged and sourced – from the surroundings and the best suppliers."
In 26th place is The Black Bull in Sedbergh, Cumbria. Judges said: "The team are focused on serving an array of delicious dishes crafted from the freshest possible produce available from the surrounding landscape.
"Expect dishes with a twist, inspired by the fusion of two very different cultures, Nina Matsunaga's rich Japanese heritage and James Ratcliffe's Dales upbringing. Previous dishes have included Howgill Herdwick lamb & kimchi tartare, daikon, puffed rice & soy cured egg, salt aged duck, sweetcorn, girolles & cherry, or how about black sesame panna cotta, strawberry & basil to finish your meal. Sunday menus are available which follow the unique take on modern British cuisine with Asian twists."
