Eight injured after 'pleasure craft' hits buoy on River Thames

Eight people have been injured after an inflatable speedboat hit a buoy on the River Thames.

Four people were taken to hospital following the crash, at about 5.40pm on Thursday, while all eight were treated at the scene for a “range of injuries”.

HM Coastguard and a number of ambulance crews were called to Greenwich Pier following the crash involving a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB).

It is believed six of those in the boat suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses reported hearing a “loud bang” before seeing Thames Clippers on hand to help.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 17:44hrs today, Thursday, 17 January following reports that a pleasure craft had been in collision with Greenwich Pier.

“Officers from the Marine Unit and the Coast Guard are in attendance.

“Six people have injuries, none of which are thought to be life threatening. No arrests.”
