Eight vehicle A55 crash due to 'foggy conditions' caused hours of disruption
An eight vehicle crash - due to "foggy conditions" - caused hours of disruption on the A55 this morning. The incident happened in the eastbound direction of the expressway near Holywell at around 8.15am this morning.
Traffic Wales officers attended followed by several police cars and the ambulance service. The road was closed completely in the eastbound direction.
Police blamed fog for the incident which they said involved eight vehicles. Vehicles were directed off the A55 at Caerwys, causing major disruption in Holywell and surrounding villages. At this point there were hour long delays to journeys.

At around 9.30am one lane of the road was reopened - with traffic gradually easing. The road was fully reopened just before 11.30am.
North Wales Police said: "We were called today at 8.17am to reports of an eight vehicle RTC on the eastbound A55 near Brynford, Holywell, due to foggy weather conditions. Officers attended and the road was closed whilst the vehicles were recovered, and Highways gritters treated the road surface.
"The weather in the area continues to be intermittently foggy with glare, and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and adjust their speed to the prevailing conditions when driving over the top of Rhuallt Hill."
The Welsh Ambulance Service have been asked to comment.
