Can these Rangers book their place in history?

Half a century on from their last European triumph and a decade on from administration, Rangers face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final in Seville. Victory would not only mean lifting a trophy but a place in the group stages of next season's Champions League.

Passage to a European final has crowned Rangers' rise from the lower divisions in Scotland following demotion in 2012. They have recruited skilfully with the likes of Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Connor Goldson brought up from English football as youngsters, while James Tavernier is an outstanding attacking right-back. John Lundstram, who scored the winning goal against RB Leipzig in the semi-final, was a shrewd pick up on a free transfer from Sheffield United. They have also seamlessly replaced Steven Gerrard in the dugout with former player Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Frankfurt are serious opposition though, and are unbeaten in this season's competition. They knocked out West Ham United in the semi-finals, winning in London before killing the game after Aaron Cresswell's early red card in the second leg. The German side were unfortunate to lose to Chelsea on penalties in the 2019 semi-finals and have a strong record in cup competitions. Central defender Evan Ndicka has impressed and has been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Rangers captain Tavernier is the competition's top scorer with seven and said: "It means the world to us. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the great team behind us, the boss directing us.

"It is obviously one step away and we all want to make history and bring that cup back home.

"I know all the boys will give 110 per cent tomorrow when asked and we will leave everything out on the pitch and hopefully we will make everyone proud."

Full team news to come shortly.
