Meet Elaine Welteroth's husband!
The Project Runway judge is married to Jonathan Singletary, a musician whom she wed in May 2020 and welcomed her first child with two years later.
The couple have a fairytale-like love story, a relationship that started as childhood friends in Northern California and evolved into a New York City romance decades later. The two ultimately tied the knot in a celebration that went viral during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Singletary opened up on his Instagram about his relationship with Welteroth in a tribute post on Mother's Day in May 2024. He paired the lengthy caption with a sweet slideshow of images that included his wife, child and family.
"I often struggle to find words to capture in realtime the rapidly expanding beauty of this love as it blossoms and transforms, bearing fruit and revelation, joy and laughter, friendship and community, healing and purpose," he wrote of his wife.
One month later, Welteroth revealed that she and Singletary are expanding their family of three. While she first announced the news during her remarks at the birthFUND Brunch Fundraiser on June 13, she posted a sweet pregnancy reveal on her Instagram the day after.
"Surprise! Jesus took the wheel (again)🐣👼🏽," she captioned the video of the moment she surprised Singletary with the baby news.

He's a musician
Singletary is a singer-songwriter and musician. While his music lives on Spotify, he often shares his talent on his Instagram, like in his series titled "Piano and Prayer."
"Thank you God for the Spirit that moves through these sessions. All the love, all the presence, the revelations, the joy and the pain. Thank you for all of it. See you next time Piano & Prayer community🙏🏾. I’m blessed by you all every single time," he captioned a post in May 2024.
He's known Elaine since childhood
Welteroth and Singletary's relationship dates back to childhood, having first met around 12 years old in Northern California. They were introduced through their moms, who performed in the same church choir (according to Vogue, they still sing beside each other decades later!).
There was no romantic connection at the time, however; it wasn't until they reunited as adults in December 2013 in New York that sparks began to fly.
“He reached out to me over Facebook to grab drinks while he was in town,” Welteroth told Vogue in 2020. “I was fresh out of a breakup with nothing better to do than meet up with ‘that guy from church,’ but I expected to be home early.”
While Welteroth was already living in N.Y.C. since 2008, Singletary did not. He eventually moved to the big city for a job in music in February 2014 — and when he did, their families reunited over a dinner that became the first of many more.
“When my mom came to visit me for her birthday that March, we made a big dinner for her to meet all my friends, and she told me to invite him over,” Welteroth told the outlet. “He tasted my fried chicken. The rest is history!”
He wed Elaine on her Brooklyn stoop
Welteroth and Singletary tied the knot in May 2020. The pair originally had grand plans with a date and location that was significant to their relationship, but the COVID-19 quarantine forced them to pivot.
They ultimately decided on the stoop of their Brooklyn apartment as the centerpiece of their virtual wedding because it had a special meaning to the couple. “Whenever we need to clear our heads and get out of the house, we sit—or dance—on our stoop together," she told Vogue.
Since social distancing was enforced at the time, Welteroth and Singletary still managed to celebrate their special day with their neighbors and loved ones (including actress Lupita Nyong'o and model Karlie Kloss) who all spaced themselves out in the street and on stoops of their own.
“All while maintaining the necessary socially responsible distance, we wanted to give our whole block a reason to dance despite all the devastation in the world around us,” she told the outlet. “It was humbling to see how our community showed up for us in big and small ways at every step in this process.”
He welcomed his first child with Elaine in April 2022
Singletary and Welteroth welcomed their first baby, son Silver Isley, together in April 2022. The pair announced the exciting news by sharing an Instagram video with moments throughout the pregnancy.
"Look who finally made his debut 💕 Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes along this wild ride earth side. Baby is here and he feels the love," the couple captioned the post in part.
Welteroth told PEOPLE that she was "excited to learn more about what this new life is here to teach us" prior to giving birth to Silver. "I'm already learning so much from this experience. We are both excited to experience new levels of love."
In March 2024, Welteroth shared an update on Silver's growth and achievements with her followers on her Instagram. She credited Singletary for helping their little one achieve a very impressive milestone.
"HOW is this kid already low key reading and he’s not even two?! Sorry to be that mom but our minds are BLOWN. Shout out to his beyond amazing dad-o @jonathansingletary who is the best teacher in the world!!" she captioned the post in part.

He and Elaine are expecting their second baby together
Welteroth announced in June 2024 that she and Singletary are expecting their second baby together. She shared the happy news when speaking at the birthFUND Brunch Fundraiser.
"This was not part of my plan. This is God's plan. But as we were building birthFUND, I happened to find out that my baby's going to be part of the first birthFund cohort. So, let's go! Let's go," she said at the end of her speech. "And Kimberly and Allegra are my midwives again. So let's do this, joyfully. Thank you all so much."
While speaking to PEOPLE at the event, Welteroth reflected on how her pregnancy differs this time around, noting that she feels "honestly so much better."
"So good and so much better than I did last time because this time I have a midwife from the beginning," she said. "Last time I didn't even discover midwifery until my third trimester. I didn't even work up the nerve to do a home birth until week 36. So this time, my experience of pregnancy has transformed because I have access."
