Elderly and Disabled Evacuated by Train from Kherson, Official Says

A number of elderly and disabled civilians were evacuated from Kherson, Ukraine, by rail, the regions governor said on Thursday, December 29, just days after a deadly attack on the city.

Yaroslav Yanushevych said 35 people were accompanied by social workers and evacuated to the city of Korosten in Zhytomyr Oblast. Among them were 19 people with reduced mobility, he said.

In the released video footage, elderly and disabled people can be seen being helped out of vehicles to the station before boarding a train.

The evacuation follows a mortar attack on Christmas Eve that left at least 11 dead and dozens injured, just over a month after the city was liberated from Russian forces on November 11. Credit: Yaroslav Yanushevich via Storyful
