Elderly woman 'dragged to the floor' before handbag and money stolen in sickening attack

An elderly woman was 'dragged to the floor' before her handbag and money was stolen in a sickening attack in Bolton.

At around 6.25pm on June 13, officers received reports of the robbery on Mornington Road. Detectives believed a man had approached the woman, before dragging her to the ground.

He then made off with her handbag containing her personal items and money. An investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police after the victim was also left with injuries.

A 33-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Carla Deighton from GMP’s Bolton neighbourhood crime team, said: “This was a cowardly crime against an elderly woman. Not only has she sustained physically injuries, this incident has also had a psychological impact on the victim.

“We are supporting her as this case progresses. This was great work by our officers who were proactive in detaining the suspect.’’
