Politicians makes many promises to help them win elections, and Donald Trump was no stranger to that as he fought to become the 45th President of the United States.

Saturday 29 April marks the 100th day of his presidency and it is at this point that provides the media, politicians and most importantly the voters a chance to take stock and see what their president has achieved so far.

It could be argued that Trump has achieved a lot and not much all at the same time, a flurry of executive orders and statements have created headlines since he took over the White House on the 20 January.

So far, Trump has signed 28 executive orders ranging from issues such as pipelines, crime reduction and healthcare.

But most of these have been small and minor orders, it is the larger orders that have struggled to gain traction.

In his Contract with the American Voter, Donald Trump promised to accomplish specific things in his first 100 days in office.

Some require executive action or simply announcing his intention to do something, while others need congressional approval and could draw legal challenges.

Out of 38 promises, 14 are on standby and are yet to be actioned.

Thirteen of them, such as rebuilding the military and changing visa rules are in progress.

Nine have been completed including lifting restrictions on fossil fuels as well as one of his biggest wins; filling the empty seat on the Supreme Court.

Two promises have not been kept.

Firstly, he promised to "repeal and replace" Obamacare, this however requires congressional approval and although attempts were made to offer a new alternative, both Democrats and Republicans were fiercely opposed to the new health act.

It may be the case that another attempt is made, but multiple bridges need to be built to get the bipartisan support it needs to receive approval.

Trade and China have been a major area that Trump has tried to tackle and one promise he has broken is that he would "order the secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator."

This didn't happen, with the administration confirming that they wouldn't be labelling the Chinese as manipulators, in fact the relationship between the two nations has been warmer than expected.

So on the whole, Trump has made slow but steady progress on his promises, but his biggest policies are yet to take hold something which will be watched closely between now and the crucial mid-terms in 2018.
