Election front pages: What the newspapers are saying about Tory election victory
When the exit poll dropped on Thursday night it predicted Boris Johnson would be returned to Downing Street with a large Conservative majority.
The poll predicted the Conservatives would end up with a working majority of almost 50 seats, 368, whereas Labour could sink below 200 seats for the first time since the 1930s.
Results through the night since then are making good on that forecast, with a host of Labour strongholds in the north and midlands falling to the Tories.
An early shock result - and harbinger of things to come - was Blyth Valley, where the Conservatives overturned an almost 8,000 majority to end Labour's almost unbroken dominance of the seat since 1950.
Most of the UK newspapers went to print not long after the exit poll was released an they all lead on its forecast of a robust Tory majority.
The Telegraph
The Telegraph leads with an image of Mr Johnson doting on his rescue Jack Russell as he went to the polling station Thursday. The paper reports his likely majority will see the Government prioritising leaving the EU by the January deadline
The Daily Mail
The Daily Mail strikes a triumphant tone, telling readers to 'rejoice' at the prospect of a 'thumping' Conservative majority. The paper notes that of the forecast comes true it would be the biggest Tory majority since 1987.
