Electric Cargo Drone Completes First Public Flight at Transport Convention in Hamburg

An electric cargo drone designed to carry up to 200 kilograms (441 pounds) successfully completed its first public flight at the Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS) World Congress 2021 in Hamburg, Germany, on October 12.

This footage filmed by Volocopter GmbH shows the VoloDrone’s three-minute test flight. According to the company, the flight reached a maximum altitude of 22 meters (about 72 feet) while carrying a Euro-pallet-sized load in a box between the drone’s landing gear.

The demonstration showed “how drone operations can extend the existing logistics infrastructure for land or sea transport to create entirely new supply chains and transport routes,” Volocopter said in a press release.
