Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick brought alive on TV by all star cast and crew

Juno Temple (Vinyl, The Dark Knight Rises) and Janelle Monae (Hidden Figures, Moonlight) have joined an already impressive cast list for the Channel 4/Sony joint venture, Electric Dreams, airing on telly later this year.

Temple and Monae join such luminaries as Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Georgina Campbell (Murdered by My Boyfriend), Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen), Anna Paquin (True Blood, X-Men), Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax), Terrence Howard (Empire), Joanna Scanlon (No Offence), Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner, Harry Potter) and so many, many more I can’t even …

The hugely ambitious ten-part original drama series – based on short stories written by award-winning Sci-Fi novelist Philip K. Dick – will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) and Michael Dinner (Justified, Masters of Sex), with Oscar nominated Bryan Cranston (Trumbo, Breaking Bad) both executive producing and appearing in the series.

Each episode will be a sharp, thrilling standalone drama adapted and contemporised for global audiences by a creative team of British and American writers. The series will both illustrate Philip K. Dick’s prophetic vision and celebrate the enduring appeal of the prized Sci-Fi novelist’s work.

“As a long-time fan of Philip K. Dick’s work, it’s a tremendous honour and thrill to be part of this series,” said Ronald D. Moore. “His short stories are a treasure-trove of material for artists to draw from and I think this will be a very exciting project.”

Moore and Dinner are joined in adapting the short stories by leading British and American writers responsible for some of film and television’s most memorable recent productions: Tony Grisoni (Red Riding, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), Jack Thorne (National Treasure, Skins, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Matthew Graham (Life on Mars, Doctor Who), David Farr (The Night Manager), Dee Rees (Mudbound) and Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim).

Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said; “Philip K. Dick’s short stories have shaped iconic Hollywood films from Blade Runner to Minority Report. Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick will adapt and modernise his singular vision for a TV audience. We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented team at Sony Pictures Television on an anthology series that brings together global stars of the calibre of Bryan Cranston and Ronald D. Moore.”

The drama will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK and will be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.
