It is dubbed the Tinder for elites — and it is coming to London.

The League, a selective dating app for young, successful individuals, will go live on Apple and Android on Tuesday after first launching in San Francisco in 2015.

Over the past month, The League CEO Amanda Bradford, a Stanford graduate, and her team have been talking to singletons in London to identify potential new users of the app.

They have hosted a series of "pre-game" parties at a host of glamorous venues across the capital — including Shoreditch House, Ham Yard Hotel, The Ivy Chelsea Garden, and the Chiltern Firehouse — to spread the word among "driven" young professionals looking for love.

The app has a waiting list of about 10,000 people in the UK, Bradford told Business Insider. Hours before launch, the company finalised a selection of 2,000 so-called "founding members," who will be able to use the app from Tuesday.

She described the initial "model users" as successful and ambitious individuals, from diverse industries who have "obviously spent time creating their profiles." Most of The League's existing members are in either finance, consulting or tech, Bradford said, but it has also received a high number of applicants from the fashion industry.

The League/FacebookInitially, the age range of founding members is pretty narrow, between 24 and 36, but Bradford said this will be widened as the app's user network grows.

New members are screened based on a number of different criteria, including industry, professional title, education, and even how many connections they have on LinkedIn, versus their number of friends on Facebook

Founding members will receive VIP tickets to extend invitations to their own network of friends, who will essentially jump the waiting list. "Referrals move a lot faster, we want to encourage our London users to bring their networks, so that it grows with the right user base," Bradford said.

The app is based on the existing one in the US, which is available in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Boston.

It is free to use, but users can opt to pay for additional features. US users have the option of purchasing a yearly subscription for $179 (£140), which gives access to more potential dates and invites to exclusive events..
