The Flintstones is getting a reboot over at Fox, the now-Disney owned network that hosts The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Similarly to the latter, it will be an animated series that's aimed at adults. In that respect, it will be set 20 years after the original series, meaning that Pebbles is older and ready to embark on her carer and navigate the new trends and changing times of the Bronze Age.
Elizabeth Banks, the comedy legend you'll know from Scrubs, Modern Family, Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games, 30 Rock, The Lego Movie and the Charlie's Angels reboot, is developing this one and voicing Pebbles.
The script for the pilot episode is being written by Lindsay Kerns, who previously penned DC Super Hero Girls and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Deadline quotes Fox Entertainment's President Michael Thorn as saying: "Long before the Simpsons and Springfield, the Griffins and Quahog or even when the Belchers started serving burgers on Ocean Avenue, there were the Flintstones and Bedrock.
"Their imprint on the animation universe is undeniable and the idea of adapting it for today’s audience is a challenge we here at Fox are very much looking forward to taking on with Warner Bros, Elizabeth and Lindsay. No pressure whatsoever, really."
Meanwhile, the entire original series will be uploaded in full to US streaming service Tubi on May 1.
