Elizabeth Banks iced face every morning while filming Skincare

Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks put her face in a bowl of ice water every morning before shooting scenes for her movie Skincare.

In the neo-noir thriller, the Pitch Perfect actress plays Hope Goldman, a facialist to the stars who is preparing to launch a skincare line when somebody starts sabotaging her reputation.

Because the film is set in 2013, before many modern beauty inventions existed, Banks used the tried-and-tested ice water method to reduce her puffiness every day.

"I struggle with some puffiness, I retain a lot of water in my face," she explained to W Magazine. "But on this film, every morning when I got to set, I put my face in a bowl of ice water - a cold plunge, basically, but for your face. It brings all the blood to your skin. We thought about what Hope's skincare tips and tricks might be, what she might do, and tried to do as much of that as possible.

"All the new stuff, LED, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), none of that existed then. But a cold face and ice - that's been around a long, long time."

Banks also revealed that Hope's make-up was inspired by photos of celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe taken 10 years ago.

"The make-up was based on pictures we'd put up on set of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Rachel Zoe from 2013, 2014, when the movie is set. That was the inspiration - the blonde extensions, the It bag, you know, you had to have the hot bag back then," she stated.

Skincare, which is already out in the U.S., will be released digitally in the U.K. on 11 November.
